This desk lamp from Bestek not only gives you 4 different color temperatures and brightness levels, but the lamp can also be detached and used as a flashlight.

Design

This desk lamp features a long arm that pivots left and right, bends forward and back and the top lamp can also be tilted so you can the light exactly where you need it to go.  The strong aluminum construction feels sturdy and the base is heavy so you don’t need to worry about accidental tip overs. However, the base is also somewhat large and requires a substantial footprint on your desk.

Light Quality

The LEDs are covered by a diffuser that produces a nice, pleasing glow that is not hard on the eyes like “naked” LEDs bulbs would be.  It also eliminates virtually all “LED flicker” some individuals may notice from other LED lights.

There are four lighting temperatures available:

  • Reading: A nice balance between cool white and warm white.
  • Study: A cool white light for focusing.
  • Relaxing: A warm white, similar to an incandescent bulb.
  • Sleep: An even warmer light conducive for bedtime.

Each of the four settings can be adjusted between four brightness levels.

Features

This desk lamp packs a surprising number of features for a desk.  First, the lamp features 2 “smart” USB charging ports that can supply up to 2.4 amps, making them ideal for charging both smartphones and tablets.  I tested the port with my iPad and did indeed receive a 2 amp charge from the lamp’s side USB port.

Second, there is a built-in 60 minute timer that can be used for automatically turning the light off at bedtime, for example.  Unfortunately, this setting cannot be adjusted to support something other than 1 hour.

Probably the more impressive feature is the ability to remove the lamp itself from the fixture.  This allows you to carry it around and use it as a flash light.  When detached, the light can be set between 3 different brightness levels.  This makes it handy for power failures or even for taking the dog for a walk at night.  The built-in 1600mAh battery can last up to 1.5 hours at full brightness.

Enjoy your music with an LED light show. The Pixnor LED Bluetooth speaker is surrounded in LEDs like the JBL Pulse, but without the high price tag.

PROs

  • LED lights: This Bluetooth speaker is surrounded by an LED light show! You can check out the 5 different light modes in my video. Two of the modes react to the music, while the other 3 just display a soothing pattern.
  • Sound quality: While the LED lights are cool, sound quality is obviously one of the most important aspects of a Bluetooth speaker. And this speaker does not disappoint. Music sounds great, gets loud, and has good range. Bass is there, too, but it sounds best if you sit the speaker up against the wall to help direct the bass out towards you. Sound quality may be a notch below the JBL Flip 2 speaker, but this speaker costs less and puts on a great light show.
  • Micro SD card support: If I’m having a party, I don’t want my phone to be linked up to a Bluetooth speaker the entire evening (nobody wants to hear my phone calls or text notifications). With this speaker, I can instead load up a Micro SD with music files, insert them in this speaker, and play them directly. This way, my phone is not needed to keep the music going.
  • Micro USB charging: This speaker uses a standard Micro USB cable for charging, so there’s no special charger to keep track of.
  • Controls: I like that the music navigation and volume adjustment buttons are separate and are located conveniently on the front of the unit.

CONs

  • Size: This speaker is taller than many other Bluetooth speakers I’ve used, which makes me wary of it tipping over easily during a party. However, the extra height does mean that there are more LEDs for the light show. Sitting up against a wall also enhances the sound while helping to prevent tip overs.

Overall this is one Bluetooth speaker that not only looks great, but sounds great as well. The LED light show is sure to entertain guests (and myself as well)!

If you’re not a fan of running electrical lines all over your house to reach the closets, staircases, and other areas that need light, check out this assortment of OxyLED Wireless Motion Lights.  You don’t even need to flip a switch to turn them on!

The nice folks over at OxyLED sent me three different models of their wireless motion lights to test out.  The motion sensing on them all worked really well, and they all have an ambient light sensor so you’re not wasting battery power during the day.

OxyLED® T-05 Battery Powered Motion Sensor LED Night Light

  • This light has a warm, yellow glow that makes it good for nighttime trips to the bathroom.  In fact, it’s yellow enough that I think the bugs will ignore it if you use it outside (please note that it is not made to be an outdoor light).
  • All of the LEDs are behind a diffusing panel so it gives us more of a soothing glow rather than a narrow beam of light.
  • Uses 3 AA batteries, rechargeables work fine.

OxyLED® T-02 DIY Stick-on Anywhere Portable 10-LED Wireless Motion Sensing LED Light

  • This light is bright with 10 LEDs!  It can light up a closet or staircase.
  • It’s compact enough that you could also mount it in a drawer that you need to light up when you open it.
  • The LEDs give us off a cool white color.
  • Uses 4 AAA batteries, and again rechargeable work fine.

OxyLED® Luxury Aluminum Case Wireless Stick Anywhere Bright Motion Sensor  LED Wall Sconce Light

  • This is a decorative light that would be fine for mounting in plain view.
  • The front light is diffused by the cover, giving off a glow in the front
  • There are two LEDs on the bottom that help light the floor below it.
  • Uses 4 AA batteries, and rechargeable batteries work fine.

The only downside to these lights is the fact that they use batteries which will eventually need to be replaced (or recharged if you’re using rechargeable batteries).  However, since they’re motion activated, they only come on when needed, which helps prolong the battery life.  They also have ambient light sensors which prevents them from coming on if there is already enough light in the room.

Overall, all of these lights work well and there are many different applications for each.  All of them feature a motion sensor that automatically turns the light off after 10 seconds when no more motion is detected.  You can find these lights over at Amazon.

Sample units were provided for evaluation.
